Woodworking Router Bit Selection Resources
Practical checks for identifying a suitable router bit before requesting a quotation.
Choose the shank
Confirm that the 1/4-inch, 1/2-inch, 6 mm or 8 mm shank matches the router collet. Never substitute a near size.
Choose the profile
Use straight bits for grooves, flush trim bits for bearing-guided template work, chamfer bits for bevels and V-bits for engraving.
Read the dimensions
Check cutting diameter, cutting length, included angle, overall length and bearing position against the drawing.
Describe the application
Provide the workpiece material, machine, cutting depth and expected finish so the specification can be reviewed.
